FWIW, I read a trip report in the BWJ about a couple exploring this route to map out campsites. The portage sounded hellacious and exactly as described above, up-down-up and mudholes with a rope being an essential piece of equipment. The portage out of Baird to another lake was described as a nightmare to find (the duo took the wrong one) and to traverse.

Still, I may do it someday...... Grin Grin

Today's POD reminded me of more than a few spots on my FUBAR trip.

Without a saw, I could have never gotten thru many spots because there was no-way to walk around them.

Today's POD looks like a job for this versatile "fishing" lure.  Huh Wink Grin

I believe PineKnot is still out in the woods (pursuing his long-standing crusade against red squirrels before seasonal snows render his battle campaigns impractical) but I'd bet the farm that I know the location of his POD today. It's from the double-beach campsite at the far east end of Fish Stake Narrows (#150), looking south towards Lady Boot Bay.

DD or Wally13, wouldn't you agree?   Seems to me we enjoyed a few libations and lively breezes while enjoying this view.  Or, have those libations clouded my memories?

Yep.  That’s it.  It’s just missing the large snapping turtle.  I’d say the north beach became much more attractive for swimming after a brief swim with him.

If it helps, the filename is Lady-Boot-Bay.

Today's POD = same campsite as yesterday, north (turtle-free) beach.

Happy memories at this site for Wally13, too, as he found a walleye hole nearby.

Sandy beach alright, and my initial impression was "north" beach.  However, upon further examination I decided it was some other location.  The first thing to draw my attention was the vertical wall to the left in this shot.  I don't remember this kind of structure to that side.  Also, the trail leading to the beach seems pretty broad.  The "north" beach trail at #150 was narrow and then opened up to the beach.

YMMV.
