Today's pic:  Coughlan's Double Wide Backwoods Mosquito Net???

dd, I use a Mombasa Outback Double, basically 5 x 5 x 7.  I either run it under my tarp, or when no rain is in the forecast I'll run a couple ridgelines and then tie to the 6 metal loops with small figure 9 biners and small lengths of rope.  Rocks work fine on the bottom.  Perfect size for my solos, a bit cozy when my son is with me.  Packs under a pound and quite small volume.  It always travels with me in canoe country.  You're right about sewing netting--pita.  I'm too lazy to take it on but have found duct tape on both sides of the netting works well too.

PK.

When finished, mine will be 5.25 x 6.5 x 7.  The original size (5.25 x 6.5 x ~5) weighs in at 14 oz, as adapted.  I've not yet weight the extra 2 feet I'm adding to the bottom.  It will be something about the size of a football when done.

I guess I should have looked harder for Mombasa.  The only ones I was finding were white mesh and I had no interest in doing that.

Yup. I landed my canoe on a chunk of rock on the southwest side of the island and hiked up and over the steep hill to the campsite on the southeast side of the island.  Didn't realize there was a far easier landing closer to the campsite.  Oops!  Oh, and I was escorted by a squadron of deerflies the entire time till I paddled away from their base.

Your landing was on the windward side of the island.  It's where we went to get away from those flies and to cool down from the day's heat.  There was a pretty nice diving cliff not far from where you landed.  The younger two guys in my crew took full advantage of it.

You must have been chasing bass to venture that far east on Takucmich.  Nothing but bass on that side of the lake.  All the LT are on the west, deeper side.  It was a quiet place to camp but you were better off in a hammock than a tent due to the lack of level ground.

PK,

Diving?  Floaties?  No....

I was too busy launching myself off that cliff in my pink flamingo feather wings.

As you know, I used to bring the complete Earth/Water/Sky Flamingo Set.  Due to popular demand, however, for the past 5 years, my pink sail has been "on display" in the shop of an outfitter friend located near the Dawson Trail Quetico Park Office.  As I am keen on observing water safety rules, the floaties are kept in my canoe and I only wear them when I'm out paddling.

Can't seem to let my "wings" go on display at the outfitter shop just yet.  I'm simply too fond of them; they set me free!  You know, Takucmich takes on a whole new look from 600 feet up.

Eagles can become a bit of a nuisance, though....

In a perfect world, it would be a Spotted Cow and not more than an arm's length away.

Very nice loon shot today. I've never been able to get that close to them without them diving for the depths.
