Today’s POD is the portage out of Poplar Lake to Meeds.  It is a significant memory for me to see it, as it was the beginning portage of our 22-day BWCA trip in 1992.

Sorry for the rather gloomy and boring shots the past few days.  I have a few more POD’s to come and most of them are more colorful.

Your PODs are great, Spartan2.  Sometimes the "older" photos bring back great memories....at least for us "older" folks.  My first thought when seeing today's POD was, "I despise paddling to a landing and seeing a rock garden"!!.....mainly because I'll undoubtedly slip and get wet trying to unload or load my canoe.  I can honestly say that at the put-in on Basswood after the Kett portages I'll fall into the water almost every time no matter how careful I try not to....today even the loons have learned to cuss when they see me there...

With regards to the Meeds portage, I always think that's a campsite when I paddle past! That Kett put-in/takeout is a bugger to navigate. There's one in WCPP from Embryo, I think to Hatchet? that's all rocks all the time. It was a scramble to get out and loaded for the portage without breaking an ankle.

Just one more comment.  These aren’t “older” photos.  This group was taken on our week on the Gunflint this past September.  I didn’t have db add any captions because I see the rest of you don’t do that, and it is extra work for him (and me.)

The first few orange maple leaf shots were on a side trip to Wild Country Maple Syrup, which is a wonderful little trip in the Lutsen area if you like that sort of thing.  Then there have been shots as we paddled on Poplar Lake (hence, the Meeds Portage shot.). The next group, which seem to be starting today, are a day trip in the BWCA that we took from East Bearskin to Alder.  There may end up being some sunset and sunrise photos, too.  Poplar Lake.

And I guess now that I have made more than “one more comment.” Wink

Thanks.  It was just as they came up day after day and the sky was always gray, just rocks and vegetation along the shore, I began to think, "Gee, I'd like to see some color!"   Smiley

Yeah, nice pics.....all of them!   I'm always fascinated by the endless slide show that nature provides us.  I guess we just need to look.
