you ever look at a POD and think "there's a nice waldo right ...there"?
today's POD there's one right at 11ft. I'm pretty sure

Interesting.  We don't fish, so it hadn't occurred to me to wonder what was under the water.  This photo was taken at a resting place during our paddle back west on East Bearskin Lake.  We had a lovely day trip, but we did have to battle a bit with the wind.

FYI:  Today's POD is Bond Falls in Michigan's upper peninsula.  Photo taken on our way to Minnesota in September.

I believe this is the last of my group of POD's from 2020.

Thanks.
I also have fond memories of Tahquamenon.  We have this photo hanging in our dining room.  I have photographed quite a few of the U. P. waterfalls, as well as many in BWCA/Q.  I don't know what there is about a waterfall that just gives me joy.

You're not alone in that I promise. One member of our Quetico group is always asking to find waterfalls! I can remember hearing the Tahquamenon Falls from a distance while we hiked up to them...it's a calming sound. I wasn't much older than 7 the first time we visited them.

Today's POD, taken by my husband, was snapped on the bridge at Cross River Falls.  About 1/3 of all of the round bridge sections on that side of the road hada perfect spider webs in them.  We took a few pictures, and he got the best one.

Today's POD.

Walking stick (and mono-pod)?

I use a "combo" stick for all of my treks in the woods (except for canoe trips).

I got a pair of lightweight trekking  poles for portaging after my 2 knee replacement surgeries this past spring.  Jimbo recommended I get them and I think they will work well for better balance. I did a no portage trip with Jimbo and Denton Doc over the 4th of July into Basswood so I didn’t get a chance to use them.

That’s what I use paddles for — always take more than one.

I have a pair of trekking poles.  Around home, even on uneven ground I haven't been using them since last year, as I am so much stronger since my surgery.  But I did take them on our day trip, as I knew we were going to go over a portage.  Turned out it was an easy enough portage that I didn't really need them.  They are good for balance, especially on roots and rocks.

I first used trekking poles in 2013 when we did our canoe trip with HoHo and David.  David loaned me his.  On that trip they were our sherpas and they carried my packs so I only did the portages with my photo backpack.  I found them especially helpful for climbing up biffy trails.

I have a walking stick at our lake cottage.  It is one I made from a beaver stick.  It is OK, but if you are hiking on uneven ground and have balance issues, a set of trekking poles is better.

The original idea for our day trip was that we would walk over the portage and do some canoeing on Alder Lake, too.  But it was very windy that day and by the time we got all the way across East Bearskin, and realized that we had to paddle back against the wind, we didn't get onto Alder.  I was looking out across the lake and muttering to myself that I really did want to get on that water.  Spartan1 has a bad habit of taking photos from behind me.  Awkward.   Tongue
