Good way to make friends when the bugs are out!

mpeebles,

True, but if we gathered outside the bug house, we would instantly become "blood brothers."

Anyway, I've always said that DD and Wally13 belonged in the Bug House, so I guess it all works out the way it's supposed to.

Later,

Nice pic Jimbo. After supper Denton Doc, Jimbo and I would start a nice campfire and get our cocktail beverages of choice out and sip n chat after the sun went down.  The camp where Jimbo took the pic was known to be mosquito infested and it didn’t disappoint. The mosquito’s came out in full force around 9 pm. The 10 x 14 CCS tarp with the $49 bug netting I got at Bass Pro in Peoria IL served us well.  The bug house is great especially for group trips.

Yeah, I think we're all getting a little "buggy" as of late.  I like the idea of the "table" in todays POD as well.  I'll TRY to remember that one.

Wally13....how much did the netting rig weigh?

Stay safe.........

Referring to the log table/shelf tied between the trees.  Great idea to keep stuff off of the ground.

Don't be deceived by yesterday's pic of Wally13's Bug House.  In reality we never set it up in the evenings.  Rather, it was employed as Wally13's "secret weapon" in pursuit of fishing trophies.

Just north of Site 150 (west end of Fish Stake Narrows) is a productive, rocky channel which we trolled for walleyes.  Wally13's $49 net (sold ,interestingly enough, by the FISHING EQUIPMENT COMPANY Bass Pro Shop), makes for an ideal (illegal) seining net.  Each evening, Wally13 and DentonDoc would jump into their canoes, paddle out about 100 yards, drop their "bug" net between their two canoes, and start "fishing."  Of course, being simply an innocent bystander, all I could do was to shake my head in dismay and turn my nose up in disdain when they would return to camp each night with ill-gotten gains.

All of this soon comes out in print in an expose I have entitled, "Wally13's Woeful World of Walleye Wrangling."

Now you know....

First time I passed by this particular campsite in early-June, the log table was up about waist high tied on with cordage.  Then when I stayed there last Sept, the entire thing was gone....pesky rangers perhaps...  Wink

Nice bug house setup though. I'm envious.

One year my nephew set up his huge inflatable couch in there and took a nap!  I remember being a little concerned that PineKnot was going to try that, too.  Might not have worked out so good, him with that cigar and all, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, there is a surprising amount of space in the WallyWorld Bug House.

I enjoyed it so much that I decided to make a scaled-down version of the bug house (6.5' X 5.25' and 7' tall) for a small party --- two or three people.  I call it my "pandemic project."

I started out with two bug nets from (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links), which provided the basic length/width, but the height is less than 5 feet.  So, I bought 2 and spliced them together; cutting off the excess material.  I've added doubled-over gross grain ribbon to all the perimeter edging (and splice) (to add strength and limit stretch), added gross grain loops in the corners and along the edges (for tie outs), and put cordova "wedges" in each corner (for rock weighting, if needed).  The only thing left to complete the design is a six-foot zipper with a two-sided pull, which I'll add to the back of one of the long sides.

The current weight is just under 2 pounds and is roughly the size of a football.

Can't wait to test it out.
