Male behavior during this Covid Summer clearly devolved to its absolute primal origins up there in the wilderness.  This wandering dude desperately wanted our campsite.  He was using any means at his disposal.  Thus, he was clearly trying to intimidate us by "marking his territory."

Alas, the pheromones of this stray alpha male were strong.  His intimidation tactic was impressive (there is a reason why biochemical warfare was outlawed decades ago).  To his credit, our leader Wally13, was as combative as ever.  He strenuously protested this outrage, arguing WE should have what - in unvarnished colloquial terms - amounted to a "pissing contest" with the unwelcome intruders.  Ultimately, however, we were subdued at the enzymatic level by the efficacy of the barbarian. It was simply too strong for our much-too-civilized nature.  Thus, I must sadly admit, we "turned tail" and broke camp the very next morning.

And now you know the rest of the story....

Given your affinity for bringing large numbers of potatoes on your memorable canoe trips, you could've launched the few remaining ones at those invading barbarians, soaked in natural liquid beforehand of course....

Starting to sound a bit like the story line from Lord of The Flies.

Speaking of which, "flies" (and especially gnats) in late June, 2020, were about as bad as I ever remember them being.  We were fortunate to have Wally13's bug house... which is pretty much where this bunch of guys belong, anyway.

I'm a little behind on this thread but when I tried to secure site 13 on snow bay, there were two motorboats parked there, a group of at least 8 perched on that ridge-high site, and every piece of camping equipment you could think of, set up there. Tables, bug huts, chairs, bbq grill with gas canister, blow-up dinghies, etc. I should have gotten a picture. It was impressive.

HighnDry,

Interesting.  Sounds like illegal motorized traffic in the BWCA to me.

The ONLY motorboats I saw during nearly 3 weeks spent on LLC this summer were: 1) towboats headed in & out of the designated canoe drop-off point just off of Site #9, and 2) some dude from LLC Village area on the Canadian side who came out almost every night (at least during my last 10 nights in that region).  He shot down the middle of LLC to a Canadian bay NW of Snow Bay where he anchored and played loud music for an hour or two.  When it got dark, when he reversed course and headed back to LLC Village.

Site #13 certainly sees more than its share of use and abuse.  It offers a great vantage point and it's probably the best site in the area for catching a decent breeze IF there is one.  Finally, if one knows the words to the song, "Oh, Canada!" OR is up for a little international intrigue, there is a super-fine beach just across the main drag.  Unfortunately, during our first visit this summer, there was also some sort of dead carcass in the woods behind that beach that stank to high heaven when a breeze came out of the west.  Reportedly, there were lots of "wolf tracks" in the sand there, so I expect an unfortunate moose had recently had a bad day.

Huh.  Motorboats in a no-motor zone....grrrr.

Actually back in 2008 my sons and I stayed on 13.  One morning we decided to daytrip to 41st Island area.  Started thru the little shortcut creek north of 13 and came upon 2 guys in a  motorboat fishing the channel....they hightailed it out of there back to the Canadian side before we could id their boat....probably common along the entire LLC border, but still....grrr.
