YTD's POD.  It's pretty unusual that walleyes come in that shallow on hot sunny days  Wink

mpeebles,

Like I've been saying, it was hot!  That particular school of 'eyes were lounging around in the shallows in that channel just north of camp @midday.  Big mistake for them!  Just like that frog in the famous science experiment, these fish didn't notice the gradual but inexorable rise in ambient water temp.  In other words, the truth of the matter is that Wally13 simply netted  this batch of pre-boiled trophies floating belly-side up in the shallows.

While I prefer my walleye fried and lightly battered, sometimes you got to take what you can get. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, there was a major nymph hatch going on, all the fish were gorged, and dinner candidates were hard to come by.

And there you have it....

I saw motorboats again later that evening on Sandbar island where I camped. I suppose at that point, one is technically outside of the BWCA on LLC but one of the boats anchored at the first 4 star site on the island so that I couldn't land there. That's life I guess. I only had to stay one night in the less-than-desirable three star site south of there so it worked out.

I like today's pic of the inukshuk. Which campsite was that at? Just curious.

HighnDry,

It's at the east end of Site #18, north of Snow Bay.  We spent time there during my second LLC visit last summer.  That was a pretty good location as it was well-protected from wind & waves of the big lake and quite convenient for our exit day tow-in pick-up at Snow Bay.  Also, as we had been paddling west from Takucmich, we had no idea how crowded conditions had become in Snow Bay.  When we found it available, we jumped on it.

If you go there, just beware of the massive yellow jacket nest in the big dead logs en route from the tent pads to where that Inukshuk is placed.  They almost got me.  I don't run much since my multiple back & hip surgeries but I ran THAT day!

Later,

Jimbo   Cool

Jimbo.  Yeah, I've been to fish boils in Door Co., WI.  Sorta like you described but the water was a little warmer AND there were some taters and onions in with them!

There are still some Sunday mornings that I remember wholewheat toast with jam from The White Gull. Fish boil? Eh, not so much. Hey, tip your waitress.

Yup, that's where it was, in Fish Creek.
