Today's POD = canoe landing for island campsite #18.

It could be rocking and rolling out on the main drag of Lac La Croix but it was generally pretty darn peaceful on that back side of our island.

Today's POD shows my son's newbie buddy, Jason, with his first-ever walleye.  It was a pretty decent fish taken on a reef between islands on LLC.  Jason also racked up a grand slam during his inaugural trip. Oddly enough, it was the pike that denied him this achievement, right up until dusk on our very last evening. Unfortunately, he got so excited to get his slam that he dropped his phone- camera into a deep weed bed as he tried to celebrate the catch with a picture.

He actually dove down into that weed bed with his flashlight several times before becoming resigned to the fact that it now would reside in Davy Jones Locker.

Later,

Having almost lost 2 cameras that way, I now have a neck lanyard for my camera so that can never happen.

My cell phone is in an after-market flip-cover case.  Being concerned about an event like the one described, I punched a couple of holes in the edge of the case and added a lanyard.  (At home, the lanyard was removed to make the phone more "pocket manageable. But, it will be re-installed for next years trips.)

For a few years, I took my phone in a see-through, "water proof" pouch with an attached lanyard.  While that was fine for looking at navigation aids and maps, the case was not sufficiently clear that photographs were acceptable.  The phone got even more use this year as a device paired to my inReach mini.

Thus far, I've come home with all devices that I've started with.

Today's POD clearly demonstrates the vigor caused by even a  brief exposure to canoe country. In less than two weeks of travel in the shield this young man has grown enough that his pants no longer reach to his ankles.

Hey Wayne, can you post or send me a pic of your case set up.  It's just a matter of time that mine goes for a swim.
Thanks........

Today's POD = east end of island Campsite #18.  "Finding shade" was a priority on both of my LLC trips this past summer.  On this particular day I was chased OUT of the shade by a nasty horde of Yellow Jackets whose nest in the fallen timber I had unwittingly disturbed.

I hate those buggers ALMOST as bad as the - gasp - notorious Ankle Biters.  "ALMOST?", you ask, incredulously. Yes... almost.  Yellow Jackets are, admittedly, pretty horrible.  However, if you're quick about it and step lively, you can elude them.  Then they give up.

Today's wilderness walking words of wisdom: Ankle Biters NEVER give up!
