Today's POD.  Been a while since I was able to sit on the ground with legs folded Undecided.  Now it's a Helinox chair and I set it up next to a tree so I can pull myself out  Smiley.   Crawling out of my tent is another spectacle to behold!

We're getting closer.......

I remember being impressed by this yogi posture when I took the pic.  A move like that would instantly put me back in the hospital. My left hip simply doesn't move that way anymore.

That was a fairly nice swimming hole over near the canoe landing.  We took full advantage of it to escape both heat and Ankle Biters.

Even after two knee replacements, and a hip replacement that ended up having to have two surgeries, I can get into that position. The problem is:  I cannot get up again.  There is a very good reason why I have a massage table to do my floor exercises--if I get down on the floor it is a big challenge to ever get up again!

I remember when was teaching Kindergarten music classes and we all sat that way in a circle on the floor.  I could cross over with my foot and just lower myself down into the cross-legged position, and then get up the same way--no hands!  That was when I was 40-45 years old.  How things do change in a few decades.   Sad

Smiley I remember not being able to sit like that for story time when I was in kindergarten and it being an issue.

Seems that many of us are dealing with the twin joys of aging and joint replacements.  In the past couple years, I've given my Flex Lite chairs to my kids because the seats only came up around 12 inches above the ground.....got to the point I literally had to roll out of the chair onto my knees and then rise to standing....uff da.  Now I have a Sunset chair that's closer to 18 inches, but really like my aluminum Director's Chair with its vertical back support for comfort...

PK,

Ditto on both your Helinox Sunset Chair AND Director's Chair comments.  On this particular trip, I loaned the Sunset chair to one of the younger guys and opted for my Director's Chair.  I typically prefer the Sunset Chair when there is any significant amount of portaging, of which there was hardly any this trip. As much as I enjoy the Sunset Chair, when other factors don't come into play on a given trip, I'll go with the Director's Chair every time. The Director's Chair has the added benefit of the "side table" which can be flipped up, if needed.

Jimbo,

I actually have two Director's chairs.  On one, I hacked off the side table and use this one when I have a heavy portage route, like Stuart River to LIS last year.  I also wrapped Ace bandages on the arms for added comfort for my bony elbows.  Also good to have in case I break a bone on the trails.  Either chair can be crammed under the front thwart of my Rapidfire or Northwind canoes.  Now, if they could just repel those dang ankle-biters....   Cool

PK.

I think there's a lighter weight helinox out there at 1.2 lbs or something like it. Mine is closer to 2lbs. I'd leave my tarp home in favor of it because it's that essential.

I almost got that site13 on my LLC trip but if I had paddled over to it, I would have lost out on site 12 which is not bad...just a slightly poorer cousin.
