MB - all the best wishes and a strong recovery on the knee replacement.  Gotta love modern medicine for extending the game!

pd

BTW - Chair lovers out there should compare the Helinox chairs to Big Agnes'.  Model for model, the BA chairs are lighter, stronger and have higher seat heights.  The Big Six seat is 20" compared to the Sunset's 14" height - huge difference.  Weight is nearly identical.  My Skyline UL has a 15" seat FWIW.  For comparison, my kitchen chairs have a 17.5" seat.

PD,

Helinox Sunset Chair seat height = 18.1 inches.

Putting my life preserver under my butt raises it up into the 20+ inch range.  I'll bring my tape measure along next time so you can check it out.

Today's POD:  Not much of a "kitchen area" to work with on island Site #18.  My CCS 10' X 14' tarp was deployed more as "shade" from the unrelenting sunshine versus protection from rain.  We would have quickly run up a center line to shed water had any real storm threatened.  While this was the "backside" of the island, we received just enough swirling breezes off the big open waters of LLC to cool us down.  The protected swimming hole was a blessing, as well.

Jimbo, maybe they've had an engineering change?  Per their website - (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) - says 14 inches???? Typo??? Or maybe they mean something different calling it 'seat base'?  I do believe yours is 18", having seen it.

Still, I like the simplicity of the all metal joints and lack of that plastic 'knuckle' on the BA chairs.  Packs tighter and feels more stable - less 'wobble'.

Now about your tape measure - THAT could explain all the 'big' walleyes you've been catching..... Roll Eyes

Is today's POD campsite 150? If so, I was shut out of this one on my trip. It's a popular destination. I settled for 153  little on down the line. I like that red tarp setup.

PD,

Here's what REI is advertising on their website right now.  See seat height specs: (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

HighNDry,

It is campsite #18, above Snow Bay and just off the big open waters of LLC.

Re the lonely inukshuk I thought it would be fun to make a nuclear family of them.  Might be fun but I'm sure it would annoy some as well.

IMHO, while it's acceptable to call an inukshuk a cairn, it's just plain wrong to call a cairn an inukshuk.

When canoe camping there are few things  better than an afternoon nap in a hammock strung between 2 trees.

Today’s POD shows Denton Doc looking very relaxed and catching some zzz’s on a hot summer afternoon on LLC  this past 4th of July.

Thanks to Wally13 for the afternoon loan of his ENO (SingleNest) hammock with ladder straps.  It was very comfortable swinging in a light breeze and I soon drifted off for a snooze.

Although I always take a nylon "string" hammock for such lounging around camp, it is often a bit difficult to "situate" in to drift off for a nap.  So, using the ENO hammock found itself with an easy convert.  I now own TWO such hammock/strap combinations, AND I can guarantee that I'll be taking one along on each future trip that is base-camp oriented.

Thanks again, Wally13.

dd

If you are so inclined to go this route (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) still has these hammocks for $25.00, although it looks like they have sold out of the ladder straps.
