Wind from the North fish come forth
Wind from the East fish bite least
Wind from the South fish close their mouths
Wind from the West fish bite best

The most important feature of a fishing lure (from a design and manufacturing point of view) is its efficacy at catching fishermen (or women).

Moray described fishing winds in California.  Minnesota fish must be different.  What I heard is as follows:

Wind from the north fish hard of mouth
Wind from the east fish bite the least
Wind from the south fish soft of mouth
Wind from the west fish bite the best.

The fish in MN and CA agree on the east and west winds.

Fishy fishy in the brook
Grandpa caught 'em by the hook
Mommy fried 'em in the pan
And Davy ate 'em like a man.

Just the thought of a floured Spring bullhead fried in lard or old bacon grease makes my mouth water.

I know, I know, eeew. Damn they were good though.

Reminds me of an old Sven and Ole joke.

Ole is out ice fishing one afternoon and hears from the heavens; "There's no fish in there!"  Ole says; "God, is that you?" only there is no response.

A few minutes later the same thing happens.  "There's no fish in there!" and again Ole says; "God, are you trying to tell me to drill another hole somewhere?"  Still no answer back but Ole goes and drills another hole anyway.

A few minutes later the same thing happens again but this time the voice is booming; "THERE'S NO FISH IN THERE!!!"  Ole again says; "Please, Lord, if you're trying to tell me something please make it clear to me."

This time the voice answers back; "Dammit Ole, this is Sven the ice-rink attendant and I'm tellin' ya there's no fish in there."

Using bacon grease to cook fish and other things used to be common practice until we learned about the adverse health issues.  When I first went to Quetico we went to Lonely Lake in 1969 with our fearless leader who was the high school shop teacher and assistant football coach.  You were eligible to go after you graduated from high school and he invited you to come.  For breakfast we fried up a bunch of bacon and used the grease to fry eggs.  The eggs were tasty, but all that grease could give you heart burn.  Today the thought of frying eggs in bacon grease really seems gross.
