Great shot today.
One of the things I learned about nightfall in the North woods was what REAL darkness means.

I remember going to a point to watch the night roll in and when I turned to go back to my campsite, I couldn't see the trail or my tarp/tent, or my hand in front of my face.

Now I take a little flashlight with me unless it's a moonlit night.

I've pulled/pushed my loaded canoe thru many a beaver dam where I created a breach.

I never had to wade into the water to do it.
This is where a good strong bow/stern line comes in handy. For lining your canoe and tying it off so the wind doesn't grab it.

I agree painters are very useful tools but group teamwork and seeing people actually taking good care of their main tool has now provided us with two exceptional PODs even Stu would probably love. Wink

Actually, I seem to recall Stu using at least one of Kim's recent POD's in an issue way back when.  The Louisa Falls bathtub pic looked familiar to me.

It's entirely plausible he used one of her other shots, too, as I've seen some published that closely resemble the beaver dam pics.

The ONLY sure-fire winners for publication in the BWJ are the ones with big fish and smiling kids!

I like the CCS spray skirt & QJ logo on the solo in the foreground. That's a good color combination.  Mine is maroon on gold Kevlar, also a nice combo.

Spray skirts come in handy on rainy, windy non-travel days.  It's surprising how much more aerodynamic it can make the vessel.  On the other hand, I find I seldom put it on for travel days. First, it's tough to snap it on over a fully packed canoe (admittedly, I pack a tad more than your average tripper). Secondly, it gets to be something of a pain  snapping & unsnapping it on multi-portage days.

Nice pic!
