See it? Heck, MagicPaddler set the thing in place himself, commemorating his first solo trip as a young boy, back in 1903!
It was a pretty impressive achievement, given it was already late October when he shoved off from his home from the nearby shores of Lake Michigan. It was full-on November and quite windy by the time he crossed and reached Superior... and we all know what the big lake is like "when the gales of November blow early."
Clearly it was an arduous journey, the significance of which can hardly be captured by one small plaque put in place on Rawn Lake, the terminus of his travel that season due to the lakes freezing over.
Maybe there will yet be a POD showing the remains of the small cabin (@200 meters west into the woods) Magic built and wintered in that bitter cold year? Last time I visited, it was on its last legs, so to speak, but I know it was his as I found an old bottle of stool softener half-buried in the duff. In fact, that was the actual origin of the QJ member custom/tradition of surreptitiously slipping such bottles into another QJer's pack when they're not looking. Just ask Magic, the stuff can come in handy on a cold winter's morning!
Alas, but that is a tale to be shared in conjunction with some future POD....
