Magic, here's a pic of the Magic Shack on Rawn, taken sometime in the mid-1990's when it was still standing.  Does it bring back memories of that long, cold winter?

Great POD today.
I didn't realize until I saw similar root systems when I first went to the Q, how shallow they were.

On my FUBAR trip when that wind sheer event hit my campsite, there were trees downed that had smaller root systems than this but massive trunks.

Where I live even small trees have root systems that enable them to take massive wind without toppling.

Great pic!  THAT is impressive.  I've seen some pretty good ones, but this looks to be around 20' across (top to bottom).  It's hard to fathom the force it took to tip that thing over.

ST,

I'm hoping you'll comment on your "cooking system."  Do you normally carry all that much metal?  Geez, that's almost as much as I haul in!

  Jimbo,

This is my DIY version of a Bake stove. I wanted something I could put on my Peak 1. The barrel is made from aluminum roof flashing. The rods are stainless shish-kabob skewers. The Blue plate is silicone and the white viewing flap is silicone as well.

All together it weighs about 2 1/2 lbs. I saw a similar one on YouTube but they put it on a grate over a fire. I wanted something I could put under the DryFly.

I added the silicone top/viewing port. That white silicone mat is pinned to the blue cover with a small baking thermostat so I can adjust the stove to the proper temp. You can see the tip in the one pic.

Built it and tested it on my gas stove at home before my trip. I take it car camping now and down the road when/if I become a base camper, I'll take it then.

Don't take now because, after a long day solo, I'm not going to be using it enough to warrant taking it.

It was a fun little DIY project that anyone could do.

Thanks, MB.

I forgot to add that you can also use this on a grate over a bed of coals. In that instance, I wouldn't use the bottom cake pan unless the temp got too hot.

I made a flashing-based folding stove that baked like those reflector ovens. It was okay but I like this version better.
