It struck me as both strange/funny that you have a small person carrying a huge pack, one carrying a canoe and a big shirtless guy carrying nothing.  Huh Grin Grin

I still can't get past that big beautiful boardwalk. In my world, not only is that a miracle of technology, it's a thing of beauty. Oh, it and seems to be highly functional too!

My assumption was shirtless man did his share and was going back to check/help?

I've never been on a boardwalk that nice.
Your assumption is probably right. On first glance is just struck me different.

I believe that is the boardwalk at the end pf the portage between Sandpit and Tin Can Mike. The Forest Service crews do some good work.

I've always been impressed with the rock work between Nym and Batch.  That staircase is a thing of beauty.

Hey Everyone; looks like my vintage photos are back.  Yes, the board walk is Sand Pit RR grade.  The big guy without a shirt is handy capped with a lame foot.  He does his share and is our bourgeois, leader.  Wouldn't go canoeing without him.

Today's POD reminds me of times I was in the middle of a lake and wondering if I made the right decision as the weather rolls in?  Undecided Wink Grin

I agree. But sometimes you take the chance. I remember canoeing the Churchill River in Manitoba for a month we had extra days for storm days planned, but if that happens everyday, you must make a choice whether to risk it. Having three foot waves within and inch of overtopping the gunnel is scary.

Another time on our last day coming out of Birch to Sucker, it snowed that night and storm the next day, we couldn’t even put in at the portage with rollers coming in and the wind coming straight up Moose so you couldn’t get on the leeward side. We wanted to get back out on schedule. Sometimes you’re not thinking correctly. Diverted and Canoed around to PP and took us 8 hours to canoe down Moose Lake. I broke my favorite paddle pulling against the wind.

As a solo paddler I understand about taking the chance more than many do. No-one to blame if you choose wrong. No-one to help if things go bad either.
When you take that calculated risk and come out okay it's a great feeling.
