In Quetico Lake near campsite 635, west of the portage to Kasakokwog. Unexpected laker because it seemed fairly shallow back in that arm of the lake.

Thanks Jimmar, I know where that campsite is.
I would never have thought a LT would be in that bay, it's very shallow.

Nice Pic.  Those unexpected surprise catches are often the most memorable.  Were you jigging for Walleye?

If I remember correctly we were just exploring that arm of the lake but trolling some Rapala as we paddled.

I stayed at that 4 star campsite on the southern entrance to that bay. I paddled down and walked that portage just to see what it was like.

I remember trolling back to the campsite and hanging up all the time because it was so shallow plus my lure was deep diver.

I just saw that this old set rolled thru -- Still great memories!
That pic is iconic in our family.  The little guy in the pic is now 25 and about to get engaged!

Today's POD and it's " This is going to get interesting" caption is why as a solo paddler I'm hoping my work-out regimen has given me the energy to make it across IF I decide to commit.

One thing all us solo paddlers know is the feeling of running low on energy and your to far in to turn back.
That's when your wishing you had 2 "motors" instead of one.  Wink Grin Grin

It's hard enough to do big water like Pickerel with 2 good paddlers - I've never done solo but I suspect it's a significant challenge!

Considering the recent POD area, I suspect it's the isthmus connecting a previous campsite (the one with the punky birch) to the larger island to the north (Pickeral).

40 yrs ago, the middle part was underwater as I recall.

Admittedly, "34G" sort of clued me in....
Jimbo   Cool

Pickerel, near 34G for sure.  Smiley
This trip was 2008 and I haven't been since 2016.
I'm lobbying for a 65th birthday trip - I never ask for anything for birthdays so I figure I might get the whole family to go in a few years that way!  Cool
We'll see - if so I'll visit the forum more often like I used to.

Nothing beats a steaming mug of coffee in a wilderness setting. Love that classic coffee pot.
Wouldn't want to haul it but it makes a great cup of Joe.

2nd to that cup of Joe IMHO is a drink of fresh cold lake water from the middle of the lake.  Cool
