Solo? Anyway, that sure looks like Diversity Bay to me. - top of Sturgeon.

In any case, that's a damn nice fish picture!

ST,

The attached shows the area we fished, this POD was a 43 in. fish. The next day we caught a heavier 44 in. Also at end of the yellow line from the bullseye we fished from shore and caught a walleye almost every cast.

  Thanks Jimmar,

I stayed at a elevated campsite with a nice sand beach right across from Scripture Island. At the time I thought that would be a great base-camp spot to fish that area for a few days.

Now that's on a list of things to do. So many things to do, so little time.  Wink Grin

db,

I was talking about ME being solo trying to take a picture of a fish that size. I have short arms. I could hold the weight with one arm, but no-way I could get a focus to show how big it was. Done it for Smallies but that's nothing compared to a fish that size.

Is this the view from the Sturgeon Lake campsite with the sand beach near Scripture Island?

  Sure looks like it.

I think it is. I’ve camped there a few times. That little beach is nice if the water is low enough to expose the sand.

I stayed there on my FUBAR trip. Normally I wouldn't stay at a site that big because I don't want to share a site and it's big enough for a large group.

It was early enough I didn't think anyone would be wanting to use it.  I would make that a base-camp for a few days early in the season. Great views and plenty of water to fish, much out of the wind from any direction.

Another monster northern, nice job!

Do you target big northern with specific lures, say spoons, spinners or large swimbaits?  My son and I seem to always catch them when fishing for walleye, as the northern pike cruise by for a walleye meal for themselves, and find our jig instead.

My largest NP (45”) was on a 1/4 oz jig with a 1-1/2” plastic minnow on 6 lb test monofilament. We like to use F-18 Rapalas a lot. My sons like large Musky jerk baits like Suick. Those tend to slow down the canoe a lot when trolled and rock it when cast and jerked. Angry Sad
