We were told by the ranger at Cache Bay that he carries a cup on a string tied to the back of his canoe. When he is thirsty he just dips a cup to drink. That is not the "Official Stance" however. I do use a filter on my trips. I would sure hate to get sick on a trip. I had a one day bug on a trip in 95 and you can't believe how miserable it can be. You have no energy to paddle, portage, or even stand up. As I see it, the little trouble of filtering water saves the big trouble of being sick.
