Thanks for your responses. Unfortunately, I'm confused. Some of the responses mentioned or alluded to Girardia, but it wasn't clear whether or not it is really known to occur in the area. Is there an official governmental warning out there somewhere?

I'm all for being cautious when the risks are known or even unknown and would definately filter or treat if I thought there was "some" risk of illness. On the other side of the coin, I sure don't want to carry extra gear and perform unnecessary chores if there has never been a reported case.
