Re: Alone in the Forest

I had my first solo experience in the BWCA last July. It was
a hiking trip to Eagle Mtn over the July 4th weekend. Suffice to say, I did learn the lesson that solo-tripping has its risks and problems. I was lucky in several ways, however. I was lucky that I didn't venture onto the Brule Lake trail, which was hit much harder by the storm. I was lucky that there were day-hikers on the trail who helped me carry my gear out.
Despite the problems with the trip, it was also a learning and growing experience, and the solitude (before the storm) was hard to beat.
It also gave me a respect for the power of nature, and I also learned first that people can be generous in the face
of adversity.
