Re: Suomi Hills

Don, I will have to research a trip from the south parking lot. I don't think it's possible. I have stayed on Spruce Island twice, but have entered from the north parking lot. In the summer, the road gate opens up to Adele lake where you park your car (only 3 car spaces or so) You put in there and portage to Doctor Lake and then portage to Spruce Island lake. The island site is the one I've stayed on. The Forest service has put a latrine on site--good thing. There is a fire grate. I caught a few bass there 2 years ago. I believe only local people use the area. You would probably have no problem getting the site if you put in on a Thursday or early Friday morning (before someone would use it for the weekend). If you wanted to, you could hike on the cross country trails to the south of Spruce Island Lake after you have made camp. Or take a day trip to Kremer Lake which is a good fishing Lake. It would be a long, very hilly Haul. I'll ask around about a route from the S Parking lot, but you'd be mostly portaging. It's many kilometers to Spruce Island Lake from there. If you need a Federal Suomi Hills map, I can send you one. Let me know. Kim Young
