Re: 2001

I think the three portages you are taking about start at Comnee and end at Poohbah.

My response to your question of taking those portages. Maybe but not my first choice. I would rather use my energy towards the death march portages that connect Comnee w/ Delahey.

I beleive the Delahey area is less traveled then Poohbah. Maybe not the portages your taking about but the lake itself. Delahey is said to be the heart of Quetico. Looking at a map, you can see it would take at least three days of travel to get there from any of the access points.

I have never been to Poohbah, so please correct me if I'm out of line. Looking at the map, Poohbah can be reach from Lac LaCroix in two days time and Poohbah is currently part of the agreement w/ the First Nation People of Lac la Croix which allows motorized boats for guiding purposes. I would think you will run into a few groups. No big deal, but having a lake like Delahey to yourself is a great feeling.

Last year I spent two days of a twelve day trip on Delahey, but I didn't take the death march portages. We entered and exited out of French Lake. Delahey was the southern point of our loop which called for a little back tracking from Delahey to Camel. It took three travel days to get there. Not hard travel, but we didn't see anyone after we left Fred Lake to Delahey. The lakes on this route are connected by the cutty creek system. Most of the portages bypass rapids that seperate the lakes. Fishing was easy above or below the rapids.

The year before that, we travel from Prairie Portage up to Comnee never making it to Delahey. Comnee, Brent and Suzanette Lakes were great fun and again we saw no other groups on Comnee or Suzantette.

My next trip is to string both of those trips together and do a North to South or South to North trip.

Paddle on!
