Re: Quetico route suggestions

Are you wanting to base camp or make a loop? There are several outstanding options going in Batchewaung, but the answer to that question is paramount to the discussion. Are the three of you all adults? Do you mind portaging? Do you want to travel each day and make a loop?
A nice place to base camp that doesn't see a lot of use (at least the times I've been there) is to go west into McAlpine and Kasakokwog. From Kasakokwog you can day trip up to Cirrus and see Sue falls, which is worth seeing. Cirrus holds a lot of fish (people friendly fish) but the portage is kinda tough. But for a day trip portage (canoes and fishing gear, no packs) it isn't bad.
There are a lot of loops you can make, all of them very good. If that's your preference, I'd be glad to make suggestions.
Batchewaung itself holds good fish, but is heavily travelled. For three adults you'd probably be more comfortable in two canoes. If one of you is younger you might prefer a larger canoe, like a Minnesota. There is no "better" choice. It's completely up to your own comfort level. If you are three good sized adults, however, you will almost certainly want to use two canoes.
