Flying to Gotter

Boundary Waters portage
Posted by: Ken E. Brown
Season/Year: Summer 97
Water Level: unsure
Length: 10, 30, 50 rods
Rating: easy
Additional Perspectives:

Portage Description:
The portage starts on a nice gravel beach-like area, then a man-made, wooden stairway takes you up a twenty foot high, vertical rock face. From that point it is a 10, 30, or 50 rod portage to Gotter Lake depending on the water level and your ability to spot the 10 rod path. Coming from Gotter, try to travel up the marshy bay beyond the obvious portage to shorten the portage length.

Lake after portage: Gotter
Known campsites: not sure
Lake Description:

Gotter Lake is a dying lake. It is really cool looking: boggy, swampy, with dead trees poking out of it like witch fingers. You could shoot footage for a swamp monster movie here. It is also real moosey-looking.
