Portage Description:
The portage from Ottertrack to Ester is what I would call hard, but others would call average for the area. The elevation rises 150 feet from Ottertrack to Ester. Although the trail is an uphill battle, it is well traveled, and kept in excellent condition. The trail is rocky most of the way, but I seem to remember 2 areas where good deep hiking boots were necessary.

Lake after portage: Ester
Known campsites: 5
Lake Description:

Ester is a rather deep lake. We primarily fished for smallmouth. We caught numbers of fish, but no real size. The lake is deeper and higher than surrounding lakes, so the water is usually cooler. Keep this in mind when fishing for smallmouth and walleye. We did manage to catch a few Northerns, but no walleye.

A cliff on the right side of the lake after coming out of the portage has a hiking trail to the top. The view is very special from here. Be careful, the rocks can be very slippery.
