Boundary Waters portages Posted by: j-stroke Season/Year: Spring 01 Water Level: high Length: 100 rods Rating: average | Additional Perspectives:
Portage Description: The 100 rod length of this portage comes in four sections (10, 70, 10, 10 rods respectively), the last two of which are not marked on the maps, and probably aren't necessary when the water isn't high. The entire route between Horse and Fourtown travels along a creek that drains from Fourtown into Horse, portaging the rapids and paddling the large pools. The 70 rod portage difficult only when the water is high, because there are a couple of clayish spots that turn into muddy suckholes.
