Portage Description:
It is a brutal climb out of Karl but it quickly leads you to one of the most pleasant portages through a canopy of trees. The trail after the climb has a gentle slope down to one of the few sandy beaches in the BWCA.

Lake Description:

The campsite near the portage to Karl looked great with the sandy beach nearby. We camped on the island south of this portage and found it a pleasant site. The temperature was moderated all night by the lake.
