Portage Description:
Very good trail (newly trenched, fresh tread, and new water-bars in summer of 2001). Some moderately steep sections, but no up-and-down. Just a bit long at the end of a trip trying to get back up the grade!

One thing to notice that is unique in the BWCA (at least as far as I know) is that this trail preexisted the forest. Several years ago a fire completely burned out the area. But the trail continued to be used as the forest regenerated (mostly birch and aspen now). The trail became arrow-straight over most of it's length, and no trees grew within a couple of feet of either side due to periodic trail maintenance and foot traffic compacting the soil. The result is that the trail gives the impression of walking down a lane with intentionally planted trees bordering either side. Kinda freaky after doing "natural" winding portages!

Lake Description:
Lesseee... flat, gravely, surrounded by lots of trees. Two one-holers and a self-service permit sign board. Looks a lot like a typical entry point parking lot!
