Portage Description:
This portage still has not been cleared from the '99 storm - it has at least 2 dozen deadfalls across the trail. The hill down into Bench is one of the steepest I've carried a canoe on and the footing is very poor in some places. The portage is not often used and the trail at the top of the hill is becoming overgrown with low vegetation such as thimble berries since the trees were all flattened by the storm.
Lake after portage: Bench
Known campsites: None at all
Lake Description:
Bench is a small, isolated lake that only sees a few visitors seeking solitude and brook trout. Both the North and South shores have remains from old campsites/campfires. If you go to Bench Lake, please pack out everything you pack in - it's losing its natural secluded feeling.
