Portage Description:
This was supposed to be a 9-rod portage; however, due to a combination of drought and a significant beaver dam, most of the half-mile channel leading to the portage was too shallow to paddle. This made an easy 9-rod portage into a half-mile trek through a swamp, with plenty of mosquitoes to add to the misery. No apparent alternate path in the woods on firmer ground. This is the shortest route into the popular S-chain.
