Went to my Dad's 90th birthday party yesterday.  He started my interest in canoeing and took me on trips when I was five years old.  He's asking me for my BWCAW maps so he and his wife can plan his canoe trip later this year.  I hope I'm still canoeing when I'm 90.  Here is a picture of him and his wife feeding a tiger on their Cambodia Thailand trip this year.

I thought I was doing pretty good, going on a week-long Q trip at age 70 late this summer.  I have been totally humbled.  I think your Dad has given me a new goal.  By the time I'm 90, maybe the grandkids will be willing to do the heavy lifting and the serious paddling.  Right now, they are still young enough (8, 9, 10) to think canoeing with gramps is a lot of fun.

Sounds like ninety according to the calendar only. Tripping and feeding tigers overseas... sounds like a great way to stay young in spirit. Count your blessings that he has been with you so long and continues to inspire. Nice post.

Just to update; they were able to carry the 80 rod portage into Hegman and had a great day trip in to see the pictographs.  The next day they tried the portage into Little Indian Souix, but couldn't make it down the steep enbankment to the creek, so they had to settle for shore lunch creekside.

There was a story about them in the Ely Echo, front page news July 2, 2011; “From iron ore to gold, Jack Everett, 90, is still prospecting.”
