I am putting in at Beaverhouse with my wife on September 3 for 9 days.  The fire ban has just been lifted so there shouldn't be any bugs.  This will be my 46 trip into Quetico.  The third for this year.  The goal is to see how many northerns and trout over 30 inches we can catch.  We may catch a few walleyes for dinner.  We generally catch more northerns over 30 inches than we do trout.

Busy with life I suppose!

I keep intending on sitting down at the computer and submitting some pics... I'll make more of an effort to do so!

Heading north in about a month. Normally aim for last half of September, work and a class I'm going to necessitates a first week of October trip. Planning on flying to Cache bay and coming up through the falls chain, Kawinipi, and from there probably Russell, Sturgeon, Lonely, up to Pickerel and out at Stanton.

Other thought was to head west and try to finally make Camel lake. Hesitation there is time, as we're planning for eight nights in park, as well as the aspect of trying to make it through cutty creek etc.

Alternatively, may just go in Beaverhouse, head down to Badwater, and over to Bentpine and up to Jean, then east or down to Sturgeon. As we know, lots of options, only so much time!

Noticed that although there is currently no fire ban, there are restrictions on travel in the area of Russell and the narrows into Sturgeon (Maligne river). Fire area about 2600 hectares in size north of Russell, covering an area to the north and east up to Fern, as well as north shore of Alice. Quite close to one of my favorite sites on Russell, on a south facing point just east of the islands at the outflow of the Maligne. Hopefully doesn't burn through the site.

Looking forward to another trip regardless of where we end up!

Just got back Sunday from 8 days on Sag. Fire ban was a pain, bugs were a pain, fishing was good, day trips into Slate and Blackstone. Lots of Beaver flights overhead, I assume checking on existing fires and campers who did not get the word of a fire ban. Heard a story about a couple of gents who had trouble at Bell Lake and hit the high priced button on their SPOT locator.

It had shrunk/slowed a bit, back to about 2600 hectares, then grew back to just over 2800. I have been keeping tabs on it as the fire and resulting travel ban in the area could very well impact our route in a few weeks, the plan being up through Russell and out through the Maligne. From the interactive fire map, it looks like it has come quite close to a nice campsite on the north of Russell, just east of the Maligne.

I too hope the Bonhomme and Sauvage portages aren't abandoned. That's an area I have yet to go through and hoped to one day.

I'm paying attention to the fire as well. Was planning on going to Buckingham in May next year and hoping the lake area isn't burned. The weather hasn't been too conducive to burning lately and there is moisture in the forecast for the next few days. We're going in at Nym next Friday for 8 nights down to Jesse and Draper and also hoping it isn't too smoky...
