This book is a "must-read" for those of you who enjoy woodcraft, learning/applying primitive forest skills, and beautifully-written prose.  Rowlands lived and worked in the remote north country for many years.  His account of life there (@ 1930s-40s or so) is full of the lessons he learned both through years of trial and error and from nearby First Nation folks, many of whom were still practicing "the old ways" in those years. I don't care how many canoe trips you've taken or how much time you've spent in the woods, you are almost certain to find a LOT of practical stuff you can use in this book; stuff that you've never even thought about before.  This is a rich and wonderfully engaging description of Life there as it changes through each month of the year.

Highly recommended!
