Portage Description:
Being that this was a long time ago, don't expect it to be the same. What I recall was wet, but not unusually so (didn't lose a boot to the mud, didn't sink to my waist). As we came to Sturgeon, a few of our party got lost. I didn't find it hard to stay on the main trail, but watching the others I know it is possible to get lost near the end & try to put down in the swamp, thinking you can paddle out.

What I recall best is breaking a pole (had it strapped in the canoe) as it caught on brush near the end. Good to have 2 poles!

Lake after portage: Sturgeon
Known campsites: 8+
Lake Description:

Sturgeon is beautiful. Saw moose & calf. Stayed on a nice island (even with the south end of Ram lake on the map). Did a day trip to Ram & caught several 4-6 pound lake Trout (10-15 feet down in late May).
