Portage Description:
There is a reason that Steep Lake has that name, and this is the portage that gave it the name. About 160 feet of elevation gain before dropping down a little into Steep Lake. Despite guide book assurances to the contrary, there are NO canoe rests along the path (the USFS stopped maintaining rests years ago). Be prepared for a real grunt to get up and over this one.
Lake after portage: Steep
Known campsites: 2
Lake Description:
Nice, isolated lake. Fairly shallow, but with no appreciable weed that I could see.
