Portage Description:
Did the Horse River to Lower Basswood Falls in Sept. '04. The river was very low, and there were 9 portages along the river, plus a few more drag thru's. All of the 'extra' portages were very short. One more portage around the falls to find a campsite, makes this a long day during low water level. Check with the park ranger or an outfitter if in question.
Lake after portage: Lower Basswood Falls
Known campsites: not sure
Lake Description:
Crooked lake is below the lower falls. Indian Pictographs approx. 30 min. paddle north. This is a really nice river, and Crooked lake is well worth the effort. Caught a 38" pike several hundred yards below the falls, and a real nice smallie above the falls.
