I live in Grand Rapids and have been skiing at Suomi Hills for 20 years. I was just there on Friday afternoon 2/18. It is maintained by the feds with help from locals like me. The original north loop is for experts and the southern loop is beginner and intermediate. We have not had much snow but there is enough. If the snow melts in the next week, north suomi will be like a luge course. It is absolutely the most beautiful area to ski in. The solitude of Suomi on a beautiful sunny day is like the solitude of the Quetico on a "Quetico day".
