Jayhawk: I can't compare to Isle Royale because I've never canoed there. I don't know why either. I work in Houghton, about 3 blocks from the park headquarters. I would suggest you contact some outfitters in Ely or the Gunflint trail area. I recommend Seagul Outfitters on the Gunflint. They can give you a lot of suggested routes to take. You will absolutely love it up there! I'd definately suggest allowing a few layover days for your trip. You never know when a big lake can be too rough to canoe.
