Ahhh flattery...
I've always gone down stream but I don't recall anything too fast to manage that didn't also have a portage. There may be a little current someplace near Minn but I'm not positive. I think all the portages will be on your right going up river. There might be an extra one you wouldn't use going down stream. It's been a while and water levels change so...

There is also the Pond - Gratton - Wicksteed way. Not as pretty as the other two and the portage has a killer ending but it's doable and would be quickest. I'd really suggest a loop in any case. If the portage from Pond is non-starter, up the river and back down through Iron might be easiest.

Wicksteed is very pretty. Darky can be very busy. (Don't miss the pictos there - one should look familiar to you now ;-) Check out Ballard if you fish.

Around that area you need to check for ticks often, especially if you're dumb like me and you lie in the moss.
