Portage Description:
This ~400rod portage takes you from the eastern edge of Russell to the NW area of Chatterton. It begins on a sand beach on the Russell side and climbs steadily. The portage is south of Chatterton Falls. Heading east it is steep with plenty of decent size boulders along the route. If you are fully loaded, it is advisable NOT to double pack on this one as some boulders or rocks could be easily missed. Ouch!! The portage ends at a marshy bay on the Chatterton side. Hard work, but well worth the effort. Good luck

Lake after portage: Chatterton
Known campsites: 2
Lake Description:

Chatterton Lake is the western gateway to Quetico's Poet Chain. Going north from the portage leads you to the top of inspiring Chatterton Falls. Following the lake south and east leads to beautiful Split Rock Falls, probably a one-two hour paddle. Enjoy!
