Portage Description:
Dore has a sand beach, pictographs, good fishing and a sunken logging raft at the landing. Long stretches of bottomless mud--the portage doubles as a swamp, in some places ineffectively bridged by log "corduroy" paving. Hordes of mosquitoes make headnets advisable.

Lake after portage: Twin

Lake Description:

The change in water quality and wilderness feel is profound, traveling from Dore to Twin Lakes. This is the portal to real wilderness. Water is bog-stained, dramatic cliffs, old growth pine and the trip down Deux Rivers to Sturgeon is a highlight of this route--moose almost always spied, and great fishing on the Pickerel River flowing out of Olifaunt.
