Portage Description:
"The Mile Portage" is always a toughie and the main reason we try to pack efficiently. This portage is a series of up and down and up and down and up and down. From West Bay of Quetico Lake, you go up a rocky (and sometimes wet) trail that turns into a decent path with several muddy areas. After a short distance, you drop down into the first of two bogs.

The bogs can be decent to horrible, depending on recent rain. After the first bog, you traverse to higher ground on a decent trail, then soon dropping down to bog #2 which is similar to the first.

Both bogs have been "corduroyed," making for somewhat easier walking. However, one slip of the foot and you can be up to your thighs in muck.

After the second bog, you go up on higher ground once again on a decent winding trail that ends by going down a rocky, wet, muddy path to Badwater Lake.

There have been times I've pulled my canoe through during high water. It's a tough one regardless of the season.

Lake after portage: Badwater
Known campsites: 4
Lake Description:

Badwater is a long, narrow lake approximately three miles long. The fishing is fair and if one is interested in going on to Omeme or Jean, it makes for a pretty paddle.
