Portage Description:
After about 25 rods of twists, turns, ups and downs (nothing out of the ordinary) there was a patch of harmless looking mud. It had a few small logs laying in it lengthwise. There was an alternate path just to the right of it. Rather than twist an ankle on the logs I opted to skirt the mud and logs by taking the small detour. Little did I know but the alternate path was a waist deep mud field (commonly called Moose Muck apparently). I quickly sank up to my crotch in the mud with the canoe on my shoulders. I had to laugh at my predicament (any other approach would have resulted in words coming out of my mouth that might need editing). As if the moose muck wasnít enough on this short portage, immediately after the mud was a steep rocky climb. My family loves rock climbing and bouldering but I had never tried climbing a route like this with a canoe on my shoulders. It was a test to keep the canoe balanced while I climbed up the 50 foot 45ƒ crag. At the top we needed to follow the ridge for 3 or 4 rods and then make a steep descent to the water. The descent included a sharp turn and a couple big abrupt drops.
