Portage Description:
Instead of looking at the map for the portage, we paddled through the tall reed like lake grass into the inlet creek and deadhead up against the rubble which formed the original 5’ high beaver dam. We carried our gear over the embankment on the right and high step over the several windfalls for a few rods and are back in the water. In immediate view are two more dams; the first being 1-1/2 feet high and the second main dam 3-1/2 feet. It is an impressive sight. We pull the canoe over both. In hind sight I suspect the portage bypasses the original and the lower dam on the left side of the creek.

Lake Description:

The large beaver colony is the most distinguishing feature of Fair Lake. The entire shoreline near the outlet has been redefined. The north shoreline and eastern end is lined with windfall and dead trees. We passed on through.
