Portage Description:
The portage from Gillis to Bat is not too difficult. Some hills but nothing serious. The trickiest part is the put in into Bat. You need to carefully get your canoe down about a 6 foot rock face and into the lake. If you have kevlar this is tricky, with aluminum it is just noisy. Once the craft are in take your time with packs and people and enjoy the quick paddle across Bat, or enjoy one of the three camp sites. I prefer the camp site just north across the lake from the protage.
