Hula to Good

Boundary Waters portage
Posted by: tommings
Season/Year: Summer 05
Water Level: average
Length: 180 rods
Rating: difficult
Additional Perspectives:

Portage Description:
Coupla dandy mud puddles that will eat any rubber or neoprene boots that aren't tied down tight. Seemed like a "never again" one going in, but felt a lot better later in the trip on the way back out. This one was pretty tough at the wet spots in early summer before spring water had completely evaporated off, seems to us it would really be miserable under wet conditions .

Lake after portage: Good
Known campsites: 2
Lake Description:

Good Lake was pretty clear, yielded a few good northerns during our explorations, but none of the bass we were expecting. Portage out to Basswood was unnecessary, just a quick lift over the beaver dam at the west end where the stream shows up between Good and Basswood. Campsite on south shore on bluff was OK in terms of the view, but pretty inconvenient to move stuff up and down the steep path to top of bluff from the rocky landing.
