Little Newt to Crooked |
Quetico portage Posted by: Tim Atkinson Season/Year: Summer 02 Water Level: low Length: 70 rods Rating: never again | Additional Perspectives: |
Portage Description:
We found 3 portage trails that all converged onto one trail. There were different landings secondary to deadfalls, low water and that quicksand-like mud. we took the portage that was located at the very end of the small outlet of a creek draining from Little Newt into Gardner Bay. We had to bushwhack through/over deadfalls then the trail opens up to a grassy area and becomes easy. There is another landing just North (right) of this one that would be easier if the water was higher. The worst part was that the trail leads to the very end of Gardner Bay and is smelly swamp that I don't know how we made it through.
Lake after portage: Crooked

Lake Description:
Supposedly more campsites--didn't see them. One on the point after the portage is nice. Caught big smallmouth/Northern while trolling the Bay.
