Portage Description:
Portage longer than listed on maps. I remember a long time ago when the muck hole in the middle of the portage was solid ground. Now it is "loon sh..", as the locals refer to the quick-sand-like mud that sucks you in as you try to escape. Better option to get into Iron - use Bottle portage. You'll enter Iron two bays to the north, but Bottle is a much easier portage, assuming the water isn't ridiculously low. If so, you'll have to portage over a very shallow rock-infested area of the lake - this portage is very easy. A long time ago, the old guides from Hamburg's & Zip's blasted a narrow boat way through these rocks - this is why you can get thru when the water is average or higher.
Lake after portage: Lac La Croix
Known campsites: 8+
Lake Description:
Iron is a good fishing lake - a good lake to camp at, and go visit Curtain Falls or Rebecca Falls.
