Portage Description:
The McKenzie map shows this as an easy 10 rods. That may have been true many years ago, but it is now about 120 or more rods of slogging through deep mud. The waterway shown on the map is inches wide and inches deep and we were there with high water! This makes about 450+ rods to get from Sawbill to Cherokee - the first camp sites.

Known campsites: None at all
Lake Description:

You still have another 180 rod portage and a bit of paddling to get to Cherokee Lake. This is a worthwhile goal but there are easier ways to get there! I would question whether Cherokee Creek has enough water to float in times of low water. Check with others before you commit to this route if the water is low.
