Portage Description:
This portage is really a combination of two. The 1st of the two has two landings, and your best bet is to paddle to the second which is just a little further up the of the river and will eliminate a few winding rods. You have about 20 more twisting and turning narrow rods before another short paddle along Kawishiwi River. The next landing requires wet feet. It can be slippery as you look for good footing on the rocks as the water rushes by. Back into the woods for a narrow twisting and turning portage with a few little ups and downs along the way. This one's 70 rods and isn't to tough but gives you the opportunity to appreciate a little solitude perhaps.

Dark water, be sure to check out the pictographs 1/3 mile south on the cliffs on the west. If your quiet you may see a moose or two in this area.
